Session Summary: This session demystifies securitized instruments and highlights their expanding role in both financing the U.S. economy and as an investment for institutional fixed income portfolios. Attendees will explore how asset-securities (ABS), residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities (RMBS and CMBS), and collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) can enhance diversification, improve risk-adjusted returns, and offer structural protections beyond those found in traditional corporate bonds.

Instructors

Scott Weston

Scott Weston has been in the asset management business since 1992 and has served as the head of Fort Washington’s Securitized Products Group since 2001. The group consists of seven portfolio managers and analysts and manages $22+ billion in assets across Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities (RMBS), Asset-Backed Securities (ABS), Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS), and Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLO) in both public and private markets. Weston joined the firm in 1999. Prior to joining Fort Washington, he was with Countrywide Investments, where he was a taxable fixed income portfolio manager, managing several mutual funds, including core bond, adjustable rate mortgage, and money market strategies. He began his investment career as a municipal and money market analyst at Midwest Group of Funds. Scott received his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati.
